Performance at Sellers Library in Upper Darby – This FREE, family event will feature an interactive taiko performance with explanations about taiko drumming. At the end, kids can try the drums! This will be held outside on the library lawn (weather permitting) so bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Japanese Culture Family Festival at Please Touch Museum – To celebrate the final weeks of the Hello from Japan! exhibit, the Please Touch Museum is partnering with Japan America Society and Shofuso House to offer a day of exploration and discovery of Japanese culture and traditions. In addition to our taiko performances, you can learn about Japanese toys, kimono dressing, Kawaii culture and so much more!

World Carnival at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire – Join us at the Shire for the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire’s World Carnival themed weekend. In addition to all the usual Renaissance themed fun, there will be lots of special entertainment to celebrate cultures from all around the world!

5th Annual Philadelphia Obon Festival – Obon is a Japanese celebration of one’s ancestors. Each summer, people return to their hometowns to remember the dead and reunite with loved ones. Obon is celebrated with festivities, especially dances called bon odori. Philadelphia’s 5th Annual Obon celebration will include bon dances, taiko drumming, tea ceremony demonstrations, traditional games, arts & crafts, as well as a flea market and gift shop with vendors selling traditional goods. Festival is FREE although there is still an admission fee to enter Shofuso. (Rain date is Sunday, August 19.) Festival takes place outside the walls of Shofuso Japanese House & Garden at Lansdowne and Horticultural Drives, West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA, 19131
