2018 Sakura Taiko Takeover! – Multiple taiko groups are taking over the Tidal Basin stage at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D. C. and we hope to see you there! This free event will be an EPIC day of taiko drumming from a diverse section of taiko groups and artists. The lineup includes eight other east coast taiko drumming groups: Kizuna, Miyako Taiko, Mark H Taiko School, Nen Daiko, Pittsburgh Taiko, Odaiko New England, The Genki Spark, Triangle Taiko. Morris Arboretum Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival – Enjoy tours of the arboretum to view the cherry blossoms and learn about Japanese garden elements. Then enjoy a boisterous taiko performance followed by a calming tea ceremony. Audience members will be invited up to try the drums after each of our performances! Parks on Tap Sake Garden – The Sake Garden, a pop-up beer garden brought to you by the Parks on Tap team, is Philadelphia’s take on the Japanese tradition of cherry blossom picnics. Enjoy beer, cocktails, and Asian fusion fare beneath the trees in Fairmount Park. We will perform multiple taiko drumming sets throughout the evening. There will be kimono dressing and samurai sword demonstrations and hands-on origami activities. And of course, we will be performing and inviting audience members up to try the drums afterwards! The Phillies! – Asian Pacific Celebration – This Theme Night at the Phillies includes lots of performances, ethnic foods, a ticket discount and more, all to celebrate Asian & Pacific heritage! Sakura Mini Matsuri – Join us in Dover, Delaware for a mini cherry blossom festival with crafts, activities, martial arts demos, and an interactive performance by us at 2:00 pm! This event is free at Kent County Public Library at 497 S Red Haven Ln, Dover, Delaware 19901.
April 22, Sunday – 4:00 to 6:00 pm:
Taiko Taster – Beginner Workshop –This 2-hour beginner taiko drumming workshop is a great way to learn about taiko and try the BIG DRUMS yourself No experience required. This workshop is open to adults and children ages 12 and up. Cost is just $25. Defensive Arts Center at 3901 Conshohocken Ave., Phila. 19131 (on the grounds of the Greenbriar Apartment complex).
